Reports indicate that 138 candidates began their campaigns on April 21 and will have until next Thursday to vie for the seats. The elections will take place on Friday April 29.
Reformists and conservatives have issued their respective lists of endorsements in hopes of expanding their influence in the next Parliament.
In the first round of voting, 221 candidates won seats. Controversy arose over the disqualification of Minoo Khaleghi, the Isfahan candidate who had won the third-highest number of votes in her riding, which should have guaranteed her a seat in Parliament. For the first time, the ultra conservative Guardian Council disqualified a candidate after the election. The reason for the disqualification has reportedly been cited as her “shaking hands with a male stranger”. Khaleghi has reportedly appealed the decision.
The Guardian Council’s role in elections has been often challenged by reformists and independent activists, who maintain the council is an obstacle to a diverse spectrum of political views from across the country being represented in Parliament.
Twenty-one provinces are involved in the second round of elections.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for this action.
People on her mailing list reportedly received massages from her asking them to open an attached file which she believes would be beneficial.
She aounced three hours later that she has recovered control of her accounts.
Molaverdi is probably the member of Rohani administration who is most often attacked by conservatives in the establishment. Her modest stabs at gaining some points in the tough fight for gender equality in Iran have eaed her serious sco from ultra-conservative figures, and most recently she has been the subject of judicial proceedings for her attempts to gain support for the families of prisoners executed for drug offences.

The report indicates that the water levels are 31 cm higher than at the same time last year.
Khalil Sai, the head of emergency response for Azerbaijan province, reports an increase of close to 2 billion cubic metres in the volume of the lake’s waters in the past seven months.
Sai waed, however, that replenishment efforts should continue because the situation could easily be reversed as summer heat approaches.
Lake Urmia has been drying out very rapidly in recent years, and the govement has taken emergency steps to save the lake, which include opening dams built on the waters that feed the lake and chaeling river water to the lake.
The recent rains have relieved some of the challenges posed by water shortages across Iran.
