Iran’s Minister of Communications says the administration has resisted pressure from certain govement bodies to implement widespread censorship on the inteet in preparation for the elections.

Mahmoud Vaezi said on Friday February 26 that the Supreme Council of Cyberspace was adamant about filtering inteet sites at a recent meeting.

“We worked hard at consultation at this meeting. A number of govement bodies wanted to have social media sites blocked. But we did not agree to it,” Vaezi said.

In recent days, Iranians have reported experiencing reduced inteet speeds as well as disruptions in the use of proxies, which Iranian inteet surfers regularly use to break through govement filtering of inteet sites.

Asked about inteet speed and the possible filtering of Telegram, Vaezi said the govement has not imposed any restrictions on the inteet or the mobile social networking site.
